Dr. Greenwald’s primary approach to psychotherapy is Cognitive Therapy (Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, CBT). Some of the features of Cognitive Therapy are as follows:
- This therapy tends to be more effective in less time than some other forms of therapy. - Goal-oriented - Problem-focused - More active on the part of the therapist than some other forms of therapy. - Skills building is emphasized - Builds skills and strategies for effective coping. - Lower relapse rates for depression and anxiety.
Dr. Greenwald has been trained in Cognitive Therapy (CBT) through the Center for Cognitive Therapy in Huntington Beach, as well as through many other professional seminars. He attends professional trainings on Cognitive Therapy on a continuing basis. Cognitive Therapy is his primary psychotherapy orientation. He published an article on Cognitive Therapy for depression in the Psychotherapy Bulletin, and APA publication. Dr. Greenwald has given training presentations on Cognitive Therapy to mental health professionals locally and nationally.
