Description of Dr. Greenwald’s background
and experience

Dr. Michael Greenwald is a Licensed Psychologist in private practice in Santa Monica and Woodland Hills, where he has been doing psychotherapy since 1988. The majority of his professional work is treating adults and couples. He has received advanced training in current treatments for anxiety, depression, and couple/marital therapy. He received his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from UCLA, a Master of Arts in developmental psychology from Columbia University, and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles.

He is a Qualified Medical Evaluator in Psychology under the California Department of Industrial Relations. Dr. Greenwald is a Board Certified Forensic Examiner from the American Board of Forensic Examiners. This area deals with the overlap between psychologiy and the law, such as in personal injury cases where someone has psychological injuries, or in criminal law matters where there are psychological issues. He has served as an expert witness for the Courts, and works with attorneys in civil and criminal matters.

Dr. Greenwald has received extensive training and education in Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) since 1985, and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy is his main orientation to therapy. He has also received a certificate in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis. He has also received the certificate of proficiency in the treatment of alcohol and other psychoactive substance use disorders from the American Psychological Association, College of Professional Psychology, is a Certified Rational Addictions Therapist through the National Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists, and a Doctoral Addictions Counselor through the National Board of Addiction Examiners. He completed a certificate program in chemical dependency treatment at Phillips Graduate Institute. He has been a source of information regarding psychological matters for television and magazine media. He published an article on depression in the Psychotherapy Bulletin, an APA publication. Dr. Greenwald has given training presentations on Cognitive Therapy to mental health professionals locally and nationally.

Dr. Greenwald works primarily with adults and couples in a general psychology practice and specializes in treating depression and anxiety disorders. He also conducts comprehensive psychological evaluations for workers’ compensation, criminal, and personal injury cases.  He is also a trained Family Law mediator and has conducted mediations with Family Law attorneys.
